Description

Summer school 2010 EFL teaching vacancies:

Welcome to Saint Michael's College and thank you for your interest in coming to teach with us this summer.

Saint Michael’s College Summer School runs from the beginning of July until the end of August. Four, six and eight week contracts are available:
4 week contract: Friday July 2nd - Sunday August 1st.
6 week contract: Friday July 2nd - Sunday August 15th.
8 week contract: Friday July 2nd - Sunday August 8th.

There is an obligatory two day induction course for all new staff starting Friday July 2rd: teachers arrrive at a time of their choosing any time on Thursday July 1st and we arrange transport from Ludlow train station.

Students range in age from about 10 to 16 and are from a huge range of countries including: Spain, Italy, Germany, Israel, Russia, Japan, China & Taiwan. The student population varies from around 100 to 150 with a peak of around 200.

Teaching takes place in the mornings and the sports and social programme is in the afternoons. Contracted teaching hours are 19 x 50 minute periods (16 hours) of General English per week. Each class is taught by two teachers. The course is divided into main and subsidiary lessons: the focus in the latter is on the development of skills. We base the courses around Snapshot for lower levels and Clockwise for the Upper Intermediate and Advanced levels. We make every effort to match teachers to their level and age preferences. There are approximately 15 students per class.  Most classrooms have interactive whiteboards and we run weekly teacher development workshops.

Summer school teachers also assist with the sports and social programme and supervise excursion groups. Lessons take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays only: Wednesday is a full day excursion. Teachers also go on the Saturday excursion and optional Sunday excursion or are on duty around the college. Despite a busy schedule, we are focused on ensuring that teachers have enough time to prepare their lessons and teachers are off every other weekend.

All summer school staff have a pastoral role and are expected to support and care for our students. Our aim is to help them to enjoy their time with us in a safe and supportive environment, to make friends and to have fun – while learning as much English as possible.

Requirements

Applicants must hold a recognised TEFL qualification (eg CELTA, Cert TESOL, etc). A DELTA is desirable. We welcome applications from enthusiastic newly qualified teachers. Unfortunately, due to visa restrictions, the positions are open to EU passport holders only. EU teachers whose first English is not English are encouraged to apply, but you must have an official IELTS certificate from IELTS graded at Level 8.

The demanding and intensive nature of the summer course requires teachers to be hardworking, flexible and enthusiastic.

We are looking for teachers who relate well to teenage learners while maintaining a high level of professionalism.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with employers and the ISA.
