EFL Teacher For Summer Camps

Description

The main role of the Teacher is to provide English instruction to our international students. We are looking for residential teachers (with accommodation and food) and non-residential teachers (without accommodation and food). Residential teachers will also have a counsellor role which involves supervision of the children during evening activities and time off court.

We are not trying be a school or English Language Camp. Our students come to us primarily for tennis. English lessons should be engaging and focused on developing the confidence of students. Our teachers should encourage the students to use the language skills they have learnt in their classrooms. Games, role play, debates, video and other such tools should be at the forefront of the lesson content and tennis should certainly be a key theme throughout the week!

Residential Teacher & Counsellor

  • Positions in Oxford Only
  • Employed
  • Salary + loyalty bonus + single room + meals + holiday pay
  • 6 hours of teaching per day
  • English lessons run Monday to Friday
  • No lessons on Thursday afternoon, Saturdays and Sundays
  • All staff are required to help out on every second Sunday with the London Tour
  • Required to help with student supervision and evening activities

Non-residential Teacher

  • Positions in Oxford and Brighton
  • Self-Employed
  • 6 hours of teaching per day 
  • English lessons run Monday to Friday 
  • No lessons on Thursday afternoon, Saturdays and Sundays
  • All non-residential English Teachers are required to help out on every second Sunday with the London Tour.
  • Required to help with lunch supervision

Working Structure  

  • Classroom - We provide a classroom with AV facilities, whiteboard and tools of the trade! However, we encourage our teachers to be creative and do not expect lessons to be wholly classroom based. We are located in two wonderful cities so there is much to explore.
  • Size of groups  - We love small groups. Our aim is to have about 5 -10 students per teacher.
  • English Levels  - We try to split the groups by age and then by level. All children complete a pre-course level test.
  • Lesson Planning - Teachers are responsible for finalizing their own lesson plans although a JMT lesson programme is provided to ensure consistency across the different lessons and groups.  
  • English team  - We have between 2 and 4 English teachers per week in Oxford and 1 in Brighton. 

Requirements

Applicants must be able to demonstrate: 

  • Recognised teacher training qualification (CELTA, Trinity Cert. TESOL or equivalent) 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Energy, enthusiasm, and an empathy with children/teenagers 
  • Ability to lead a group of students on and off camp 

Desirable attributes include:

  • Teaching experience, preferably with children of 10 -17 years (Oxford), 15-21 years (Brighton) 
  • Previous summer camp/centre experience 
  • Interest/ability in areas such as tennis or sport! 
  • DBS or equivalent 
  • Excellent spoken English
